Frequently Asked Questions

What is Psychotherapy/ counseling?

Psychotherapy , also referred to as mental health counseling, is a relationship between a trained clinician and a client for the purpose of helping the client with their symptoms of mental illness, or to achieve desired changes in their life.

Why go to a therapist or counselor?

Going to a therapist or counselor  can be a worthwhile growing and stabilizing experience, good for times when you have specific problems, interpersonal problems, or generally feeling down.  You can go to a therapist once a week for a few months, or embark on a long-term therapy journey.  Each will depend on your goals and expectations.

What should I expect during my first session?

Your initial visit is a period for you and your therapist to get to know each other.  There are no right or wrong answers so please don’t feel that you must impress your therapist.  The clinicians at Evolve  will do her best to address all your initial questions and concerns.  The atmosphere in the office will be quiet and calming, and will allow you to discuss your concerns honestly and openly without fear of judgement or rejection.

How long will I be in therapy?

Each therapeutic relationship is unique, and the length of treatment can vary.  Generally, you and your therapist will discuss your goals and outline a treatment plan to achieve these goals.  Your treatment plan will specify an identified number of sessions agreed upon by you and the therapist, however this number can be adjusted at any time during the therapeutic relationship.  Your commitment to attend regularly scheduled sessions is most important.  Most clients find weekly sessions the most productive, but others prefer bi-weekly, or twice-a-week sessions.

How do I know you are the right therapist for me?

This is an important question, as most studies indicate that the fit between the client and the therapist is a significant predictor for successful therapy.  You can use our initial interview to ask questions that are most important to you, and get a sense of what it feels like to work with me.  Our style is empathetic, intuitive, and interactive. We focus on our client’s strengths, talents, and potential.

Do you take insurance for reimbursement?

The short answer is yes. We currently accept Medicare, Aetna, Cigna , Magellan and KEPRO EAP. We are diligently working with other insurance providers to expand our network. For individuals who completely understand the risks involved with being given a mental health diagnosis, and who want to use their insurance for counseling, I can provide a statement for insurance reimbursement for out-of-network counseling.

***Using your medical insurance for counseling has some risks involved. In order to use your medical insurance for counseling, you must be given a mental disorder diagnosis and that diagnosis will become a part of your permanent medical record.  Having a mental diagnosis on your record may carry long-term implications and may hinder you from being able to obtain life insurance, disability or health insurance in the future. Additionally, filing an insurance claim means your diagnosis, dates of service, etc., are no longer totally confidential, and your insurance company will be aware of your treatment and diagnosis.

What if I need to cancel my appointment?

If you need to cancel your appointment, you must do so at least 48 hours in advance of your scheduled session time. You will be responsible for the full fee and charged for the time reserved when cancellations are received less than 48 hours in advance.

Will my sessions be confidential?

Yes. Confidentiality is a key component of the counseling relationship, allowing you a safe place to work through personal issues. Your right to confidentiality will be carefully maintained and will not be disclosed without your written permission, except in cases of possible harm to yourself or others (especially children or the elderly) or a criminal court subpoena.

What hours are you available?

Evolve does not provide 24 hour support.  However there are some weekend and evening appointments available.  Appointments can be booked online through the services page.  You can also contact Jesenia at jminniefield@evolvecounselingconsulting.com or at 386-365-4698 to check availability.

Do you provide e-therapy?

Occasionally, when needed, I can offer this service to clients with whom I have a strong therapeutic relationship. Due to the current pandemic virtual sessions are now being offered to all clients who have the ability to participate.

What is the difference between life coaching and mental health counseling/therapy?

When considering mental health services it is imperative that you meet with someone who is qualified to provide the services you need.  As a licensed professional Jesenia is regulated by the state of Florida. Unfortunately life coaching is not currently regulated by a state, therefore anyone can use the title of life coach. Both therapists and properly trained coaches can help individuals who want to make changes in their lives. If you have a mental health diagnosis, such as depression, anxiety, addiction, etc. it is best to meet with our clinicians for individual or group counseling.  If you do not have a mental health condition, but require additional assistance with life decisions and goal setting then life coaching sessions may be best for you.  Feel free to contact Evolve if you are unsure which service is right for you.

What are your fees?

Fees will be discussed during our initial telephone contact for private pay and insurance billing.  Service fees for private pay clients are located in the services pages of this website. The client is responsible for the fees before the session begins.
