Am I enough?

Feelings of inadequacy are a topic that has come up quite often with my clients recently. Questions and statements such as “I’m not where I should be in life”, “I don’t have my own place”, “I feel like a disappointment to my family” ,“am I doing enough” and “I don’t know why anyone would want me” are just a few of the negative self-thoughts that I explore with my clients on a daily basis.

As I sit back and reflect I realize that most of us have had many of these thoughts ourselves. We begin to question who we are, and what we are doing with our lives. This is especially true if you are in the habit of comparing yourself to those around you. It is easy to question, am I enough, when you feel as though everyone around you is progressing.

Rather than focusing on everyone else, the key to self-acceptance is to learn to focus on you. Once you shift your attention you will soon discover that not only are you enough, you are more than enough! The following tips will help you on the path to loving and accepting You.

First, remember you are enough! You are equipped with everything you need to be the best version of yourself, and the only opinion that matters is your own.

Second, live your truth! Embrace and accept all and everything you are. Put your feelings and happiness first, and begin living for you.

Third, find the beauty in your perceived flaws! We are all uniquely made, and these “flaws” are what set you apart.

Fourth, stop comparing yourself to those around you! Life is not a race. You do not have to try to catch up to anyone. Set your own pace in order to achieve YOUR goals.

Lastly, learn to enjoy the journey. If you are focused on a sole result you will miss out on all the beautiful moments and relationships that will blossom along the way.
